NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Patrick McCarty is the new principal at Ashley High School.
McCarty held a news conference Tuesday morning in hopes to ease the concerns of parents, staff and community members heading into the new school year. This comes after concerns were raised in the previous year’s Teacher Working Condition Survey results.
“I want to be able to change the conversation about Ashley,” said McCarty.
McCarty was formerly the principal at Murray Middle School, which he says will be an asset.
One of his goals is to be visible within the school and the community.
McCarty says, “It’s important to spend the majority of my day out of my office. The majority of the day needs to be spent out in the hallways, the cafeteria, and in the classrooms.”
Another goal is to improve communication between administration and staff.
“It is a learning experience, I would be naïve to not think otherwise, but I have great experts that work with me so if I have a question I know who to ask,” he says.
The first day of school for all New Hanover county schools is next Monday.
